Rik A. Vanooteghem, DDS, MS has been practicing periodontics since 1986. His career has been highlighted by his commitment to education, his several published articles and his involvement with numerous professional organizations.

Dr. Vanooteghem earned his dental degree from the Catholic University of Leuven's Dental School in Leuven, Belgium in 1981. After immigrating to the United States of America from Belgium in 1984, he received his Master of Science Degree in Periodontics from Loma Linda University. He then returned to Belgium to earn a diploma in Surgical Placement of Bränemark Dental Implants in 1985.

Dr. Vanooteghem's commitment to education is evident by his involvement in both teaching and learning. He has been a full-time and part-time assistant professor at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry and also was a teaching assistant in Periodontics at Loma Linda University. Dr. Vanooteghem is also founder and director of the Silicon Valley Study Group, a group of dentists dedicated to excellence in continuing education.

Dr. Vanooteghem has been practicing dentistry since 1981. He was trained in Belgium at the Catholic University of Leuven’s Dental School and then specialized in Periodontics at Loma Linda University in Southern California. He is very passionate about his work but when he is ready to relax, he loves to fly small airplanes with his friends and family. Dr. Vanooteghem loves technology and everything to do with computers and the like! He enjoys playing tennis and taking long walks with his dogs. Dr. Vanooteghem has four grown children that are away at college or living on their own. He loves spending time with his family. He often travels to Belgium to visit his mother, sisters, and their families.
